Manufacturer of bicycle tires in the center of Europe in the mountains of the northern Czech Republic since 1928, rubber manufacturer Rubena puts its own name back on bicycle tires. After seven years of selling their wide range of road, gravel, city and MTB tires under their separate Mitas Tires brand, they will return to Rubena Tires throughout 2022.
Rubena bicycle tires return after 7 years of Mitas
Ten years ago, Rubena bicycle tires and inner tubes were the best known in Central Europe. The Czech tire maker has therefore rebranded its full line of bikes as Mitas – the same brand it uses internationally for everything from motorcycles to tractors to aircraft tires. It seemed like a move to reposition itself as a high-performance, European-made but still fairly affordable cycling brand.
But after several years that included substantial sponsorship of the UCI MTB World Cup – and a super technical namesake Mitas Choice trail feature at the Nové Město XC World Cup which put the world’s best cross-country racers and prototype bikes to the test – looks like it could soon be Rubena’s Choice again?
Technically, we don’t expect to see any major tire changes anytime soon, as Mitas/Rubena have just released an all-new Monarch gravity tire (above) last fall, and just updated to wider versions of their X-Road gravel tires (below). And their 2022 catalog should remain under the Mitas brand throughout this year, as they “gradually transform” into Rubena.
“Today, the Czech rubber manufacturer Rubena, sro, which is inextricably etched in the memory of not only Czech cyclists, withdraws from the Mitas brand. It will now offer the entire range of bicycles under the Rubena Tires brand.
Rubena’s rubber industry tradition dates back to 1908. The first Czechoslovakian bicycle tire was manufactured in Náchod in 1928. Every year Rubena ships millions of tires and inner tubes worldwide. Everything is manufactured in the Czech Republic in the largest specialized factory for tires and inner tubes in Europe. Historically, our products appeared on wheels under the brands Kudrnáč, Barum and Mitas.
The Rubena Tires product range includes bicycle tires for MTB, road, gravel, city and trekking, including tires for e-bikes.“
