Device with ‘bomb components’ destroyed at Ector County Courthouse

ODESSA, Texas (KOSA) -UPDATE: As of 2:45 p.m. Thursday, the west side of the Ector County Courthouse is now open.

Although no arrests have been made, police have persons of interest in a situation involving a device with bomb components this morning at the Ector County Courthouse.

The device was discovered around 7:45 a.m. Thursday morning on the west side of the courthouse.

The Ector County Sheriff’s Office said Odessa police used a device that shoots high-pressure water at dangerous devices to destroy the object in question. CBS7 was informed that the destroyed device contained bomb components.

Federal investigators from the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are on their way. This will fall under the jurisdiction of the federal government.

For now, the only description of the persons of interest is that they were wearing a jacket. But the cameras pointing to the area are under review.

The courthouse is closed until noon.
